1931 Born in Ibaraki.
1953 Joined the Demokrato Artists Association.(hereinafter called “Demokrato”)
1954 Graduated from Art Departement, Faculty of Education, the Tokyo Kyoiku University (Current University of Tsukuba).
1958 Left for the United States, to be a New York based artist since then,
while going back and forth between US and Japan.
1966 Represented Japan to participate in the 33rd Venice Biennale.
1971 Represented Japan to participate in the Sao Paulo Biennale and was awarded Bank of Brazil Prize.
1987 Executed the 300-meter Rainbow Eiffel Tower Project in Paris.
1995 Awarded Medal with Purple Ribbon.
2006 “Over the Rainbow: Ay-O Retrospective, 1950-2006” (Fukui Fine Arts Museum, Miyazaki Prefectural Art Museum)
2012 One man show “Ay-O: Over the Rainbow Once More” (Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Niigata City Art Museum, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art)
