1932年大阪府生まれ。具体美術協会の初期メンバーとして、戦後日本の前衛美術を牽引した女性画家である。大阪市立美術研究所で学び、1955年に具体美術協会に参加。音や光を用いたインスタレーション作品を発表し、特に《電気服》や《ベル》などで注目を集めた。その後はそういった表現を絵画に応用しユニークな作品を制作した。具体美術協会解散後も精力的に活動を続け、国内外で高く評価され、2012年には東京都現代美術館で回顧展が開催された。独自の表現で前衛美術の発展に寄与した作家である。

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1932, she was an early member of the Gutai Art Association and a leading female painter in postwar Japanese avant-garde art. She studied at the Osaka Municipal Art Institute and joined the Gutai Art Association in 1955. She produced installation works using sound and light, attracting particular attention with works such as "Electric Suit" and "Bell." She subsequently applied these techniques to painting, creating unique works. She continued to work energetically even after the Gutai Art Association disbanded, earning high praise both in Japan and overseas, with a retrospective exhibition being held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo in 2012. She is an artist who contributed to the development of avant-garde art with her unique style.
