Takashi MURAKAMI
( 1962/2/1 - )

Born in Tokyo in 1962. Graduated from the doctoral program in Japanese painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School. Proposed "Super Flat" (2000), he develops expressions that fuse subculture with traditional art. He focuses on the similarities between the paintings of "eccentric" Japanese painters such as Ito Jakuchu and contemporary anime and manga, and discovers the "avant-garde" aspects of Japanese culture that have been passed down through the ages. In 2001, he founded Kaikai Kiki, which also supports young artists. He is known for his collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Kaiyodo, and Roppongi Hills. He has held solo exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, and has received numerous awards and published numerous books.
