1942年徳島県生まれ。1967年に具体美術協会に最年少で加入し、後期具体を代表する作家として活躍。日本では数少ない機械を使う表現のキネティック・アーティストであり、モノトーンを基調とした造形は理知的でありながらも安らぎとエレガンスを併せ持つ。モーターなどの仕掛けが作り出す音と動きは律動を生み、テクノロジー時代を予見した作品を制作する。1984年には大阪・難波に美術教室「文星道場・ギャラリー Do」を開設し、教育にも尽力した。

Born in Tokushima Prefecture in 1942, he joined the Gutai Art Association in 1967 as the youngest artist, and became a representative artist of the late Gutai movement. He is one of the few kinetic artists in Japan who uses machines in his artistic expression, and his monochrome forms are intellectual yet also peaceful and elegant. The sounds and movements created by motors and other devices create rhythms, creating works that anticipate the technological age. In 1984, he opened the art school "Bunsei Dojo Gallery Do" in Namba, Osaka, and devoted himself to education.
