Jiro TAKAMATSU
( 1936/2/20 - 1998/6/25)

Born in Tokyo in 1936. After graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts, he made his debut at the Yomiuri Independent Exhibition, and through series such as "Dot," "String," and "Shadow," he attempted to express immaterial concepts and the imbalance of time and space. In 1963, he formed Hi Red Center and performed numerous performances. Believing that incompleteness lies possibility and a future, his works reflect on the process of contemplating the eternal "absence" that never completes. Since the 1980s, he has been working on his colorful "Shape" series, which seems to address the fundamental question of why we are endowed with physical bodies along with formless things such as intellect and life.
